Pheromone trap is developed by BARI which is used for mainly brinjal and fruit borer and cucurbit fruit fly.

For brinjal shoot and fruit borer---

2.(E)-11-Hexadecin-1-OL
For cucurbit Fruit fly---

Preparation of Pheromone Trap:

1.A plastic bayam having capacity 3L of water and height 22 cm to be taken.The bayam may be round or flattended on lateral sides.
2.Two triangles with each arm 10-12 cm should cut on two lateral sides of the bayam opposite to each other the basal arm of the triangle should be 4-6 above the bottom of the bayam.
3.soapy water of 2-3 cm high should be put in the bayam.
4.A hole should be made in the lid of the bayam.
5.A piece of cotton with 1 ml or 15-20 drops of specific pheromone should be treated and rolled it as a tube or used original pheromone tube.
6.The pheromone tube treated cotton roll should be hanged with a fine wire through the hole of the lid in such a way that the tube should be 2-3 cm above the water lavel.
7.The trap should be placed 10-15 m apart in the field just above the crop canopy with the help of bamboo stick.A total of 70 traps will require in 1 ha land.

Function of pheromone trap :

Pheromone from pheromone tube/treated cotton place will be dispensed as vapour in the air.As a result,opposite sex of the specified pheromone will be attracted to the trap and finally will die in soapy water.It must be confirmed that the water in the trap not be dried.A pheromone tube is usually active up to several months but cotton treated with pheromone is active up to 3 months.
