The Muller Report: What if Donald Trump is impeached
30. April 2019 at 14:42
"If we have confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the president clearly did not commit obstruction, we would so state. Based on the facts and applicable legal standards, we are unable to reach that judgement.

Robert S. Muller shocked the C-SPAN with the breaking news March 22nd 2019 as the story headlines went awash on various media platforms announcing the release of the special counsel's investigative findings linking the Trump campaign and Moscow, most especially a possible complicity of obstruction of Justice on the part of president Trump.

From the Trump towers in Manhattan to the sacred pristine of the Capitol Hill building,

the investigation probing into Donald Trump links with Russia and a possible

collusion became officially heightened when on May 17, 2017, Robert Swan Muller

III was appointed by deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as special counsel

fronting the investigation over alleged Russian interference in the November

2016 presidential election that brought in Donald Trump as the 45th president

of the united states.

Tracked with its every move, the investigation became the eye of the Trump administration as its

subject matter danced rhythmically through constant speculations by political

pundits on either-side of the political aisle. It was an investigation full of

twists and turns as Americans watch with folded arms waiting for an end to this

blockbuster akin to the water gate investigation.

"On June 17th, 2017, the president called McGahn at home

and directed him to call the Attorney General and say that the special counsel

had conflicting interest and must be removed. McGahn did not carry out the

direction, however, deciding that he would resign rather than trigger what he

regarded as a possible Saturday night massacre"

The American superstar lawyer, registered Republican, ex-US mariner, who served as the sixth

Director of the FBI between 2001-2013 reckons finely as one of the most

decorated criminal justice lawyer in the American legal annals with an

impeccable career history unstained.

On March 22, 2019, after nearly two years of thorough investigative analysis on the

complicity of Donald Trump possible obstruction to justice, links with the

Kremlin, and possible collusion, Robert S. Muller submitted the much awaited

report to the Justice department headed by Attorney Gen. William Barr. The over

400 paged reports as redacted was subsequently sent to congress April 18th,

2019 for their perusal and onward judgments, as it revealed so much, yet kept

silent on certain salient facts and findings which could have laid a ground

templates for impeachment proceedings.

Though, the report didn't handily place collusion on the side of the president and his team

with Russia, it did states clearly that Donald Trump and his henchmen"expected' to benefit from the illegal action to influence the election.According to Robert Muller in his report, Russia systemically and fashionably

interfered with the process.

Muller however in his report set out a template of concern and twists when he stated that the reports did not find the president guilty with a sounding clause that it however did not exonerates him. This to a larger extent has given a majority of democrats more concerns in raising eyebrows about the president's complicity to obstruct justice. While some are calling for a possible impeachment, others including speaker Pelosi and House Judiciary committee chairman Jerry Nadler are requesting for a full release of the complete 446 un-redacted pages reports. According to congressman Nadler, this is to enable the House carry out more investigative findings in other to make informed judgment through careful

analysis.

Congressman Adam Schiff and House Intelligence committee chairman insist that an impeachment call might be possible only on a bipartisan scale noting that a US senate controlled Republican congress might not be willing to approve on an impeachment call even when the House must have veto such call.

Freshmen congress neophytes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Harbi Tlaib believe an impeachment call is the way to go given the glaring facts and findings about the reports. In a similar vein, Congresswoman Elizabeth Warren and 2020 democratic presidential hopeful Kamala Harris during a CNN prime town hall event on Monday April 22nd reiterate her call for the impeachment of president Trump noting his behavior was inappropriate for an individual occupying the highest office of the land.

High ranking Republican Senator and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney has expressed his worries and concerns over what he describe as very “sickening” and “pervasive dishonesty” by an individual occupying the highest office of the land. According to the Utah Senator, while it was good news that there wasn’t sufficient evidence to charge the president of the United States with having conspired with a foreign adversary or having obstructed justice, he is sickened at the extent of pervasiveness of dishonesty and misdirection by individuals occupying the highest office of the land including the president. “I am appalled that, among other things, fellow citizens working in a campaign for president welcomed Russia-including information that has been illegally obtained; that none of them acted to inform the American law enforcement.

Reading the reports is a sobering revelation of how far we have strayed from the aspirations and principles of the founders” Romney stated.

Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders during Monday's town hall call on caution while noting urging congress to "do a hard investigation" to"get to the truth" in concluding whether the president absolutely

committed obstruction or not.

"If we have confidence after a thorough

investigation of the facts that the president clearly did not commit

obstruction, we would so state. Based on the facts and applicable legal

standards, we are unable to reach that judgment.

The evidence we obtained about the president

actions and intents present difficult issues that prevent us from conclusively

determining that a criminal conduct occurred.

Accordingly, while this report does not

conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.

The president efforts to influence the

investigation were mostly unsuccessful but that is largely because the persons

who surrounded the president declined to carry out orders or accede to his

request"

The Robert Muller reports will go down well in the annals of American political history as one investigative report that absolutely place a president on the edge of public scrutiny revealing the very daring behind the scenes conduct inappropriate for the office of the president. It would however join the 9/11 commission report, the warren report, and the star report as one of the most important in American political mileage.
